Complete ASP Chat Application

Download Code

More information: Version 3.0 of ASPChatWorx, upgraded 07/05/2000, is a chat application implemented entirely in ASP and is ready to run immediately. All you need to do is create a virtual directory for the application, and copy the files from the .zip file into that directory. Refer to the readme.txt file for more information.

Note: Version 3.0 of the application works on IIS but not PWS. If you want a PWS friendly version, download version 2.0

If you read the enclosed readme file you will notice that you need to copy line into your global.asa file, or you could simply copy the one provided in the zip into the wwwroot directory, have fun.

If you get the error:
Object required: '[undefined]'

Its 'cus you dont have the script in the root. The global.asa needs to execute, create a virtual directory and use that.

You have to create a virtual directory under iis - then you will no longer get the line 96 error.

Peeps, the error:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01a8'
Object required: '[undefined]'

/chat/default.asp, line 96

Could also occur when you use a frame set. That's what I found out when I put a fine working .asp into a frame. Try it while not using a frame, you might be more lucky. Not that I used this script, but I thought it might be a helpfull remark. If not, well no harm done.
Posted by :  Archive Import (VoodooBox) at 17:31 on Thursday, February 27, 2003
New remark,

Make sure when calling the script from a frame (frameset) that the file that holds the frame is in the same virtual directory, cuz else objects can't be addressed.

FROM THE AUTHOR:

Sounds like the users that are reporting this issue have an older version of VBScript or the Global.asa is not executing which means that the Application is being run in a directory rather than as an Application.

solution to much asked question

i get this error

maybe you can try defining the object using

Set ObjCommand=Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Command")

substituting objcommand for the undefined obbect

FYI ....
I found this on support.microsoft.com, it did not resolve this issue, unfortunately. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

KB297519

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the IWAM_MACHINENAME and IUSR_MACHINENAME user accounts do not have "Logon as a batch job" rights.
RESOLUTION
Give "Logon as a batch job" rights to the IWAM_MACHINENAME and IUSR_MACHINENAME accounts. To do this, follow these steps:
On the Administrative Tools menu, expand Local Security Policies.
Select User Rights Assignment.
Select the IWAM_MACHINENAME and IUSR_MACHINENAME accounts.NOTE: If domain level policy settings are defined, they override local policy settings. Make sure that the Effective Policy Setting is also selected (this setting is dimmed). Contact your domain administrator if this setting is not selected.

to solve the problem you all are having, put the global file in the root directory of your website.

For instance, if your site is www.testing.com
and you have a subfolder called chat (www.testing.com/chat)
then you need to put the global file in the root directory (www.testing.com). If you just leave it in the (www.testing.com/chat) directory, you will get the Object required error you all are referring to.
