Getting an action from a changed number ?

I am pretty new to this so I hope I'm not being silly.

I have a bulk sms package which is perfect for the application I intend to use. Th only problem I have is that it doesn't give an audible notification for the incoming sms (like what outlook does for an incoming mail..)

Any help out there ?
